Science Atlantic is piloting an Intergenerational Mentorship Program to connect senior and retired STEM faculty with early-career faculty and students across the region.
This program supports students and new faculty throughout their academic / career journeys, helping them navigate the challenges and opportunities they may encounter along the way. Senior / retired faculty will guide the next generation of students and new faculty by sharing their knowledge, experience, and insights.
Goals
For everyone involved, the project is intended to foster a greater sense of belonging, strengthen relationships between generations, and create opportunities to exchange knowledge, experience, and perspectives.
For senior and retired faculty, the program will provide opportunities to remain involved in the Atlantic post-secondary STEM community, connect with new perspectives and ideas, and share their knowledge and experience with others as a way of giving back to the community.
For early-career faculty and students, mentorship is expected to support their understanding of post-secondary systems and academic norms, expand their professional connections across the region, and contribute to greater confidence in their studies and career development.
