Join Memorial University of Newfoundland science students Sathya Amarasena, Amy Stephenson, and Asha De Silva for a panel discussion about their experiences with Science Atlantic, facilitated by Science Atlantic Board of Directors Student Representative Holly Butt.

In addition to prepared discussion topics, there will be a Q&A session, time permitting.

About Sathya

Sathya Amarasena is a third-year PhD candidate at the Department of Biochemistry, Memorial University. Her research is focused on the dietary micronutrients and gut-brain interaction. She has presented her research at multiple local and international conferences, including the Canadian Nutrition Society conference (2024), the American Society for Nutrition-annual conference (2024), and the Science Atlantic Nutrition and Food Conference (SANFC) in 2023 (winner of the best PhD oral presentation) and 2024.

About Amy

Amy is currently in her fourth year as a Chemistry Honours student at MUN. Over the past two years, Amy has had the privilege of attending ChemCon (at DAL and CBU), which has been an invaluable opportunity for her academic growth. These conferences have allowed Amy to engage with researchers, expand her knowledge of developments in the field of chemistry, and network with peers like herself. Each experience has deepened her passion for chemistry and enriched her educational journey.

About Asha

Asha De Silva, a registered veterinarian from Sri Lanka, is currently pursuing a PhD at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, where her research focuses on amino acid metabolism in neonatal pediatrics, specifically studying TPN-fed piglets in Dr Brunton/Bertolo’s lab. With experience as a government veterinary surgeon and a master’s in Public Administration from the University of Colombo, she brings a distinct interdisciplinary perspective to her work. Recently, she presented her study, Creatine Absorption Across the Small Intestine in the Presence of Guanidinoacetic Acid in Pigs, at the Science Atlantic Nutrition & Foods 2024 conference, hosted by Memorial University.
