Please Welcome Acting Chair Elect, Dale Keefe!

We are excited to welcome Dr. Dale Keefe (Acadia) as Acting Chair Elect of the Science Atlantic Board! Dale has had a decades long relationship with Science Atlantic, and we’re thrilled to have him return in a leadership role.
Dale’s involvement with Science Atlantic (then APICS) started in the 1980s when he was a MUN undergraduate student attending ChemCon. In the 1990s, as an Assistant Professor, Dale joined the APICS Chemistry Committee, including serving as its Chair for several years. Dale continued his involvement with APICS/Science Atlantic for well over a decade, including assisting with developing a new institutional member fee structure and sitting on the Research Working Group to establish the Atlantic Facilities Research and Equipment Database (AFRED).
Over the last 30 years, Dale’s academic career has spanned both CBU and Acadia, including roles as Professor of Chemistry; Dean of Research and Graduate Studies; interim VP Academic and Research; interim President and Vice-Chancellor; and Provost and Vice-President Academic. Dale was Canada Research Chair from 2006 – 2011 and has published more than 50 scientific papers and supervised more than 30 research students.
Dale brings a breadth of experience in post-secondary administration as well as knowledge of and commitment to APICS/Science Atlantic over decades of the organization’s evolution.
Dale succeeds Dr. Malcolm Butler (SMU), who stepped off the Board to pursue a commitment that took him out of the Atlantic region. We extend our sincere thanks to Malcolm for his dedication to strengthening Science Atlantic during his tenure as Chair. We have greatly benefited from his steadfast commitment to students and strategic approach to improving post-secondary education. We also would like to express our gratitude to Past Chair, Dr. Charles Macdonald (Dalhousie), who has stepped in as Interim Chair until Dale’s orientation to the Board is complete.
