Science Atlantic is proud to help promote an upcoming conference which celebrates the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities of Atlantic Canada: QAtCanSTEM 2022. We spoke with organizer, Landon Getz, about the exciting conference details.
The QAtCanSTEM Colloquium is an annual science, technology, engineering, and mathematics conference with the goal of bringing together 2SLGBTQIA+ folks to build community and talk about the STEM they do and love! While the conference is geared towards 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, registration is open to everyone.
This year’s event is taking place in person at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia on October 20th and 21st 2022. The colloquium is a free event, and registration is now open!
The QAtCanSTEM Colloquium is also accepting abstracts from anyone doing STEM work. The conference will have oral and poster presentations available. Abstract submission is now open, and the deadline for submission is June 27th, 11:30PM Atlantic Time. We welcome submissions from all STEM topics, including medicine and the social sciences.
There are travel awards available for students requiring additional funds to travel to and attend the conference. These will be prioritized for speakers and poster presenters, will be roughly 500$ in total, with some flexibility given based on funding availability.
QAtCanSTEM is a community-building project aiming at enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion to connect LGBTQ+ folks in Atlantic Canada doing STEM. QAtCanSTEM has run two QAtCanSTEM Colloquium events, one in person in 2020 at Dalhousie University and another online in 2022.
Events like QAtCanSTEM are vital to the culture and community of post-secondary STEM education in the Atlantic region. To register, submit your abstract, or contact conference organizers, visit their website!
