Aquaculture & Fisheries becomes Applied Aquatic Sciences

Almost 30 years ago, the Science Atlantic Aquaculture Committee was founded to bring together scientists and students in this distinct field of research. Over time, the research and researchers represented by the Aquaculture (and later, Fisheries) group has expanded. To reflect this diversity, we are pleased to announce the new name of the Division, Applied Aquatic Sciences (AAS)!

This transition marks a milestone that will enable us to broaden our membership and strengthen our community ties. We are pleased to welcome students and faculty from diverse disciplines such as oceanography who don’t currently have a home division in Science Atlantic.

With this name change, the Aquaculture & Fisheries and Biology Conference (AFB) also has a new name. The annual conference will now be known as the Biology and Applied Aquatic Sciences Conference (BAAS). The first BAAS will be held in Halifax, March 9 and 10, 2024.

Please bear with us as we update our website, branding, and language. If you see a reference to A&F or AFB that we’ve missed, please drop us a line at communications@scienceatlantic.ca.
