Lois Whitehead(she/her)
Executive Director
About Lois
Lois Whitehead has over 30 years’ experience in not-for-profit and association-based organizations. Her educational background in psychology, non-profit management, and community economic development, combined with experience and training in strategic planning, facilitation, and human resources, has helped to make her a leader in the nonprofit world. Lois has served as the Executive Director of Science Atlantic for over 20 years. In this time, she has successfully led and grown the organization’s footprint in the region, including increasing the membership, realigning services to a redefined mission, and rebranding (twice!).
In her spare time, Lois is a news, charity, professional development, and tech junkie.

Jessica Trigo(she/her)
Full-Stack Developer
About Jessica
Jessica is a Computer Programming graduate from Fanshawe College. Her background volunteering with various mental health advocacy groups sparked her interest in nonprofit organizations. She is excited to learn more about the structure and function of not-for-profit organizations while working at Science Atlantic. In her role, Jessica is responsible for updating the design and accessibility of Science Atlantic’s website, developing and maintaining full-stack web applications, and optimizing database performance.
In her spare time, Jessica enjoys playing tabletop and video games, reading, and spending time with her animals.

Mikayla Hanlon

Communications and Member Engagement Assistant / Conference Support
About Mikayla
Mikayla Hanlon is joining the team as the Communications and Member Engagement Assistant – Conference Support for the remainder of the summer.
Mikayla is looking forward to using the skills she developed as a Volunteer Student Organizer of the 2024 Science Atlantic Psychology Conference to help update our Conference-in-a-Box website and other resources to better support conference organizers. Mikayla will be entering her third year of a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Saint Mary’s University in the fall, and she plans to graduate in 2026.
Outside of work Mikayla loves to read, listen to music, and do theater.

Abigail Keeping

About Abigail
Abigail Keeping is continuing with Science Atlantic for the 2025-2026 year. She is a recent graduate of Saint Mary’s University, where she completed a double major in Honours Psychology and Criminology. Abigail is looking forward to applying her academic background to support and contribute to the strong scientific community that Science Atlantic has built. In her role, Abigail will be responsible for assisting with various administrative tasks including board support, Annual Members meeting planning and supporting the Executive Director. In this role, she will also be assisting with social media.
Outside of work, Abigail enjoys staying active, playing video games, and painting.

Alexa Wilcox

Digital Communications Assistant
About Alexa
Alexa is returning to Science Atlantic this summer as a Digital Communications Assistant. She is looking forward to building on the skills that she began developing when she completed a co-op placement here in 2024. This year, she will be assisting with the newsletter, the Yearbook, the Annual Report, and other communications tasks. Alexa just recently finished her BA in Honours English at Acadia University and will be starting her MA in English at Dalhousie University in the fall.
In her spare time, Alexa enjoys sewing, playing cozy games, and obsessing over whichever piece of fiction has currently piqued her interest.

Monique O'Neill

Program Development and Communications Assistant
About Monique
Monique O’Neill is joining the Science Atlantic team this summer as a Program Development and Communications Assistant Co-op student. She is excited to be working with Science Atlantic and looks forward to developing new skills while contributing to a variety of initiatives throughout her term. This summer, she will be involved in the Membership Committee as well as helping with the new mentorship program. Monique recently finished her third year of study at Dalhousie University, where she is completing her Bachelor of Commerce.
Outside of work, she enjoys travelling. Last semester, she studied abroad in France, where she was able to explore and visit many new places.
