K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre Award
The K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre Award is awarded annually at the Science Atlantic Environment Conference for the best oral or poster presentation of undergraduate student research relating to the flora or fauna of the Acadian Forest region. (Note: for the purpose of this award, student research on Boreal Forest in Newfoundland and Labrador will be eligible as there is a large overlap of species.)
Each Award will be decided by a majority vote of the judging committee (determined annually at each conference). In the event that there is no undergraduate presentation which meets the criteria it can be awarded for a graduate presentation. At any conference, if there is no suitable candidate, the judging committee has the right to not give an award.
The decision of the judges is final.
The Award is $250 (and a K.C. Irving Centre hat when available).
By accepting the prize, the winner agrees to have his or her name, presentation title, and abstract provided to Science Atlantic and the sponsor.
The K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre is a place where nature and people meet and collaborate. Three labs and specialized climate change greenhouses provide Science students and faculty with a world class research facility. Student art displays, performance recitals and debates in the Garden Room provide the Arts with a brilliant space. Auditorium, Seminar and Acadia rooms provide spaces for group projects and where Professional Studies can meet and teach. The K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens is open to 365 days a year and has been since September 14 2002. Students, friends and visitors are welcome anytime.
