From past work experience with nonprofit organizations, Emma understands the importance of transferable skills and is looking forward to bringing her skillset as a writer to the table. Richard Inkpen

Communications and Member Engagement Assistant

Richard is completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Human Resource Certificate from Saint Mary’s University. He chose this program because he wanted to better understand people and how they think. The program has honed his interest in organizational psychology and human resources.

Previously, he worked as a job coach at Building Futures, another local non-profit organization, so he knew he enjoyed working with non-profits when the opportunity to work at Science Atlantic arose.

As a Communication and Member Engagement Assistant, he’s responsible for a variety of tasks, including research into a number of online event platforms, interviewing members, and discovering ways Science Atlantic can better support science-related activities in the Atlantic region. He enjoys being able to take part in both the planning and implementation process of projects.

Shanley Weston

Web Designer & Content Creator

Shanley is completing a dual degree in Commerce and Psychology at Saint Mary’s University in hopes of becoming a small business advisor. She wanted the practical background and experience that comes with a Commerce degree alongside the more theoretical, free-spirited learning experience that comes with Psychology.

She is an active participant in Venture for Canada, a career acceleration platform catered towards students. It was through this program that the Science Atlantic Executive Director discovered Shanley and her skillset.

Shanley is lead Web Designer & Content Creator and has been essential in the development and implementation of the new Science Atlantic website, launching in Fall 2020. Her focus is on ensuring easier navigation and meeting accessibility standards. As the team’s main technician, Shanley is responsible for an assortment of tech-related duties, which have improved internal communication processes.
